THE LOSS OF SIR
OSWALD CHEUNG, SC
The Hong Kong Bar Association is
sad to announce that its most senior
member, Sir Oswald Cheung SC passed
away on 10th December 2003.
Sir Oswald had a long and distinguished
career at the Bar. He was called
to the Bar in England by the Honourable
Society of Lincoln's Inn and was
called to the Hong Kong Bar in 1951.
He was appointed Queen's Counsel
in 1965. He served as the Hon Secretary
of the Bar in 1952 and was Chairman
of the Bar in 1966. He was a bencher
of the Lincoln's Inn since 1987
and was made life member of the
Hong Kong Bar Association in 1996.
Sir Oswald also had a long record
of public service during the Hong
Kong war years. He served on numerous
Government Boards and Committees.
He was a member of the Legislative
Council from 1970 to 1981 and the
Executive Council from 1974 to 1986.
He was knighted in 1987.
His contribution to the Bar and
to Hong Kong will be remembered
by all.
A memorial service for Sir Oswald
will be held at the St. John's Cathedral
on Friday, 19th December 2003 at
12:00 noon.
