PHOTOCOPYING SERVICE AND RECEIPTS
AT THE HIGH COURT LIBRARY

As members were previously informed (and as mentioned in Circular No.070/03 dated 18.8.03; Circular No. 095/03 dated 27.10.03 and Circular No.013/04 dated 16.2.04), the old HKBA photocopying card for the photocopy machines at the High Court Library, LG4, High Court is no longer in use following the installation of the Octopus copier processors.

The Ricoh Octopus System aims to provide a secure, efficient and flexible photocopying service to the members and non-members. It also reduces cash handling, operational costs, and eliminates the need to reload or recharge the HKBA photocopy card, which exercise was previously handled by a full time secretariat staff of the Bar Association seated at the High Court Library. Under the old photocopying system, the issuing of invoices and/or receipts was one of the services provided to the members in view of the fact that a full time staff had been employed for the purpose aforesaid.

Following a recent review of the new system, the Bar Council is satisfied that the current Ricoh Octopus System should be maintained in the interest of the members, but felt that it would be inappropriate to deploy a full time staff to be seated at the High Court Library. In the circumstances, the Bar Council has resolved that with effect from Wednesday, 23 June 2004 the Bar will not issue any receipts for photocopying at the High Court Library. The Bar regrets and appreciates that this may cause inconvenience to some of the members who may from time to time require a receipt. If there are any queries in relation to the above, you may contact the Bar Secretariat at LG2, High Court, 38 Queensway, Hong Kong.
