RESOURCE CENTRE FOR UNREPRESENTED LITIGANTS
The Judiciary has written to invite members to a briefing session on the Resource Centre for Unrepresented Litigants ("Steering Committee").
By way of background, the Steering Committee was appointed by
the Chief Justice in February 2002, with the following terms of reference:
(a) To advise on the establishment and operation of the Resource
Centre for unrepresented litigants in civil proceedings in the High Court and
the District Court; and
(b) To explore with the legal profession, interested non-governmental organizations
and other interested bodies opportunities for them to provide assistance at
or through the Resource Centre to unrepresented litigants in civil proceedings
in the High Court and the District Court.
Taking into account the Steering Committee's recommendations,
the Judiciary has set up a Resource Centre for Unrepresented Litigants at the
LG1, High Court. The Resource Centre will commence operation by the end of December
2003.
Before the centre comes into operation, the Steering Committee would like to invite interested members to a briefing session to introduce the objectives and the facilities and services to be provided at the centre. Details of the briefing session will take place on 12 December 2003 (Friday) at 5 pm at LG1, High Court Building, 38 Queenway, Hong Kong. Members who are interested may contact Rani Romani at 2869 0210 for reply slip.
