DEBATING COMPETITION 2011-2012

Invitation to the Hong Kong Bar Association
Debating Competition 2011-2012

The annual Hong Kong Bar Association Debating Competition 2011-2012 is going to be held from November 2011 onwards. The competition comprises the English Division and the Chinese Division, and is now open for application from all secondary schools in Hong Kong.

The Hong Kong Bar Association organises the said debating competition with the aim of raising the awareness of socio-legal issues and the rule of law among secondary school students. Since the debating competition first held in 2004, it has proven to be a huge success and has attracted remarkable publicity and popularity in Hong Kong.

Like last year, the debating competition this year will start with 16 schools for the English Division and the Chinese Division respectively. The motions for the debates will focus on various social-legal issues. Adjudicators will include members of the Judiciary, legal academics and members of the Bar.

The Hong Kong Bar Association cordially invites all secondary schools to participate in and support such a meaningful event. Interested schools should fill in the application form (Click here to download the application form in PDF format) and send it to us by mail or facsimile before 5 p.m. on 30 September 2011 (Friday). If the number of favourable responses received exceeds the available spaces, lots will be drawn to decide which schools would be eligible to participate in the debating competition. A briefing session will be held on 19 October 2011 for confirmed participants, during which sides and motions will be drawn.
